Nigerian Resident Doctors Hold Ground, Insist on 200% Salary Raise

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) remains steadfast in its demand for a significant salary increment of at least 200% within the CONMESS salary structure. The doctors are also emphasizing their previous request, outlined in a letter dated July 7, 2022, for the fulfilment of associated allowances.

In addition to their salary concerns, the resident doctors are calling on both state and federal governments to prioritize the revival of the health sector. They assert that it is crucial for the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the Nigerian health sector, stressing the need to move beyond mere rhetoric and effectively address the issue of “Brain Drain.”

Regarding subsidies, NARD proposes that the funds saved from subsidy removal should be allocated to meaningful investments that will enhance the overall well-being of Nigerians. They also urge the West African Colleges of Surgeons and Physicians to immediately cease charging NARD members based on parallel market exchange rates, advocating for fairer practices.

Moreover, the resident doctors are urging the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria to discontinue the downgrading of membership certificates, emphasizing that such practices are not observed in sister African countries that share the same certificate.
