India’s Railway Minister had Sunday, June 4, stated that the source and individuals responsible for the country’s dreadful train crash in several years had been identified, blaming an electronic signal system without revealing further details.
India’s Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had told news agency ANI, that it was not fitting to reveal the details before a final investigation report was out.
The death toll from Friday’s train wreck close to Balasore, an eastern state in Odisha, is expected to rise above 288.
There had been uncertainty about the exact sequence of events but reports have referenced railway officials as remarking that a signalling error from the train had sent the Coromandel Express running south from Kolkata to Chennai onto a side track, slamming into a freight train in the process.
The wreckage had also derailed an express train running north from India’s tech hub, Bengaluru to Kolkata.
Meanwhile, the Odisha State’s Chief Secretary, Pradeep Jena has confirmed that about 900 injured people are currently receiving treatment.
