A 44-year-old Nigerian medical doctor, Obinna Onyekwena, with vast experience supporting developing countries in tackling infectious diseases, has been appointed as a deputy director in disease advocacy at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in Seattle, Washington.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation works to help improve people’s health in developing countries and its primary aim is to give them a chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty.
The news had been shared by Onyekwena via his LinkedIn account. He had disclosed that his new role would be heading the foundation’s strategies and portfolio of investments for an increased political commitment, resourcing, and implementation of communicable diseases like HIV, Tuberculosis.
