Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala becomes the first African woman to win Champions League

Nigeria and Barcelona’s player, Asisat Oshoala has become the first African winner of the European Women’s Champions league.

Asisat, narrating her experience in a documentary called StrongIs stated that she started her journey from the slums of Ikorodu, to a third-rate football pitch in Mushin and now she’s with Barcelona.

However, in the documentary, she mentioned that she grew up in an area where girls are not expected to participate in sports.

But, she would always go behind her parents to play football with her friends.

She further stated that it was only her grandmother who supported her dreams of becoming a footballer.

Her story changed when FC Robo, a female club gave her the opportunity to play, she also played for Rivers Angels in Nigeria before she was signed by Liverpool Ladies.

Asisat Oshoala believes that you can achieve whatever you put your mind to, no matter who you are.
