The Nigeria Labour Congress -NLC, has announced its decision to protest on Tuesday and Wednesday this week over the continued closure of the public universities in Nigeria.
This announcement came as it blamed the Federal Government’s alleged rejection of the Nimi-Briggs Committee on the premise of alleged disparity between the pay rise allocated to the academic and non-academic staff of universities.
The Nigeria Labour Congress -NLC, in a circular to its state councils and affiliates dated July 15, 2022, and signed by its President and General Secretary, Ayuba Wabba and Emma Ugboaja, respectively, had reported that the protest was to take place in all the state capitals including FCT Abuja, starting from NLC’s secretariats.
Among other reasons, the protest is mostly aimed at pressurizing the Federal Government to conclude and finalize negotiations with striking universities unions and see that public universities resume normal activities.
