The Nigerian entertainment industry is faced with yet another health crisis. Ameachi Muonagor, a respected veteran actor known for his fatherly roles in movies like “Aki and Pawpaw,” has made a heart-wrenching plea for help. He recently disclosed that he is currently battling a severe case of stroke.
In a video shared widely on Thursday night, Ameachi, who appeared bedridden, revealed that he has been grappling with this debilitating condition for the past seven months. He reached out to the public, seeking financial support to confront this health crisis head-on.
“I am sick, this thing that is called stroke caught up with me,” Amaechi lamented in the video. He recounted his journey from the first hospital in Nnewi to the teaching hospital in Nnewi, where he currently resides. He explained the severity of his condition, stating, “I cannot move, I can’t walk on my own. All my left side is paralyzed, so it’s a problem to me.”
This unfortunate development raises concerns about the health and well-being of actors in the Nollywood industry. Ameachi’s case is not an isolated one, as other actors have faced health challenges in the past. The recent passing of Don Brymo, who collapsed on set, serves as a grim reminder of the risks associated with the demanding nature of acting.
Ameachi’s plea highlights the need for better health management within the industry. Actors, particularly those of middle age, must prioritize their health and regularly monitor factors like blood pressure. The plea also underscores the importance of having medical facilities and equipment, such as blood pressure testing machines, on set to ensure the safety and well-being of actors.
Ameachi Muonagor concluded his appeal by saying, “I’m so sorry I didn’t make it known to the public earlier, because I didn’t know it will last this long, but as it is now, I am calling on well-minded individuals to come to my assistance, to see how they can help me. It’s paralysis, half of my body.”
As another actor faces a health crisis, the entertainment community and the public are urged to come together and support Ameachi Muonagor during this difficult time. Let us remember the joy and entertainment he has brought to our screens and extend our assistance.
The pressing question that remains is how to prevent such health crises in the future. The Nollywood industry must prioritize the health and well-being of its stars, implement safety measures on set, and encourage regular health check-ups to ensure the longevity of its talented actors.
