Nigerian TV presenter Nyma Akashat Zibiri has taken Afrobeats music star Davido to task over comments he made regarding the deplorable state of the economy in Nigeria. Davido, in an interview recently, complained of the depreciating exchange rate and urged Americans not to relocate to or invest in Nigeria, citing the nation’s economic struggles.
Responding, Nyma expressed disappointment, accusing Davido of “belittling” President Bola Tinubu’s efforts at luring foreign investors into the country. She said the removal of subsidy on petrol was the boldest move by the administration toward recovery. She challenged the singer to show what he had been able to do in his home state, Osun, and if he had established a food production company or started any project to assist the government.
The development has divided opinions among Nigerians; while many have hailed Nyma’s stance, others say Davido was just stating a fact about the country’s pitiable economic state.
