Popular US rapper, Offset has announced an arena gig in Moscow, Russia, scheduled for April 18th at the MTC Live Hall. This announcement comes amid the ongoing industry-wide suspensions of operations in Russia following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
Offset, signed to Motown Records, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group (UMG), has concluded plans to perform in Moscow. This is coming after UMG previously announced the suspension of all operations in Russia in response to the Ukraine conflict, raising questions about the label’s current stance. In addition, the performance contradicts UMG’s previous statement of suspending all Russian operations.
Music Industry’s Response to Russia-Ukraine Conflict
In the aftermath of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, major music labels, including UMG, Warner Music Group, and Sony Music, suspended operations in Russia. Many artists, such as Green Day, Louis Tomlinson, and Yungblud, also cancelled planned gigs.
Rapper DaBaby, also signed to UMG’s Interscope Records, recently performed in Moscow, posting updates on his Instagram.
Ticket Prices and Venue Information for Offset’s Moscow Show
Tickets for Offset’s Moscow performance are priced between 5,000 and 45,000 Russian roubles, equivalent to approximately £40 to £400. The concert will take place at Moscow’s MTC Live Hall.
It is noteworthy to point out that some Russian musicians have been “blacklisted” for expressing anti-war views, showing how serious the political sentiment for artists performing in Russia are.
