A protest arose in Abuja in the early hours of the day, after members of the task force of the Federal Capital Territory Administration took into custody some motorcycles popularly known as Okada. The riders out of annoyance, blocked the expressway to prevent vehicles from passing, which resulted in heavy traffic
According to an anonymous person, the task force forcefully took into custody several motorcycles of those working on the expressway, they’ve been warned several times to stay off the highway, but they paid dear ears to the warnings, which is the reason why the taskforce seized their motorcycles.
A commercial bus driver who pleaded anonymity said, “FCT taskforce went there to seize the motorcycles of those operating at the expressway. They have been warned to stop using the highway. But they still do, which was why the task force came. But they angrily blocked the road afterward.”
Josephine Adeh, the public relations officer of the police force in Abuja, attested that they’ve dispatched all security agencies to the area, to control the situation. She further said that she doesn’t really know all the details about the incident
Kalu Emetu, the spokesman for the Director of Road Traffic Services, confirmed the incident
He said, “The task force went there to impound some of them. They organized themselves in protest, blocking the road. We have barricaded some areas to demarcate where they should go and not, but they still cross the barricade to enter the expressway. ”
The warning is obviously for the benefit of these okada men, if they had just followed the rules nothing of this such would have happened.
