Well, just when you thought the Ondo State drama was over, hold onto your seats! The Ondo State House Assembly has come out with a statement that, in a rather dramatic twist, they’re not done with the impeachment of Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

In a tone that’s as serious as it is amusing, they’ve basically said, “Lucky, you’re in hot water, buddy!” The House has made it clear that they’re determined to see this impeachment through to the bitter end. Why, you ask? Well, it’s all about these “monumental allegations of gross misconduct against the Deputy Governor.”

They’ve even got their lawyer, Femi Emodamori, making the official statement. According to this official missive, the Assembly has followed all the constitutional steps. It’s like a well-rehearsed theater production. They’re at the stage where the Chief Judge is supposed to assemble a 7-man panel to investigate these allegations against the Deputy Governor.

The Chief Judge has received an ex parte order from the Deputy-Governor, a legal curveball that’s put a halt to everything. The House, however, isn’t having it. They’re on a mission to untie the Chief Judge’s hands, squash the order, and get back to the impeachment.

And just to be crystal clear, they want you to know that they haven’t “suspended” anything, as some news reports might suggest. Nope, they’re all in, following the Constitution to the letter. It’s not a casual affair; it’s a process spelled out in the Nigerian Constitution.

The drama kicked off when 11 members of the House signed and presented allegations of gross misconduct to the Speaker on September 20, 2023. That’s Act One. The Speaker then served these allegations on the Deputy Governor and all other House members. That’s Act Two.

Now, Act Three is the grand finale. It requires a two-thirds majority of the members to pass a motion within 14 days to officially kick off the investigation. It’s like the climax of a political thriller.

In the background, it seems Governor Akeredolu is ready to take on his deputy and anyone else who plotted against him during his sick leave. It’s a political showdown!
