Ondo State, Nigeria, has a new Deputy Governor! Dr. Olaide Adelami, a respected former government official, took the oath of office on Thursday, marking a new chapter for the state’s leadership.
Chosen to serve: Following the passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, last December, and the subsequent swearing-in of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Dr. Adelami was selected by the Governor himself to become his Deputy. This decision was approved by the Ondo State House of Assembly, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity in leadership.
The ceremony: Held at the International Culture and Events Centre in Akure, the state capital, the official swearing-in was presided over by the Chief Judge, Justice Olusegun Odusola. On this momentous occasion, Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his dedication to the continued progress and development of Ondo State.

A leader with experience: Born in 1958, Dr. Adelami holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Lagos and an MBA from Ogun State University. Throughout his career, he held various positions within the government, including serving as Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly before his retirement in 2018. Notably, he also hails from Owo town and previously participated in the 2020 Ondo governorship race under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
