Organ Theft: Kogi Assembly Sounds Alarm
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

The Kogi State House of Assembly has asked the state government to take proactive measures in reducing ever-rising cases of organ theft and lynching of innocent persons.

The house had also called on the police to inquire widely and apprehend the perpetrators of organ theft in Lokoja and Kogi State in general.

The call is the sequel to a motion of urgent public importance moved by Hon. Bin Ebaiya Shehu Tijani, the lawmaker representing Lokoja I State Constituency, on Tuesday, September 26.

Shehu had bemoaned the rising cases of male organ theft perpetuated by superstitious and magical aid.

While expressing worries about the ugly development, the first-time lawmaker had informed his colleagues that false claims and actual theft had been recorded, and that the victims of false claims were getting lynched.

In Shehu’s words:
“Beating, maiming and lynching of innocent individuals over crimes they hadn’t committed should be the reasons for our legislative intervention.”

The Deputy Chief Whip representing Kabba/Bunu Hon. Bello Oluwaseyi, had seconded the motion, remarking to the house that the cases of organ theft in the last week had been on the increase in the state, adding that both the government and security agencies should take proactive steps to avert further crisis in Kogi State.

The speaker of the house, Rt. Hon. Umar Aliyu, had directed security agencies to do their work in maintaining law and order to curb chaos in Kogi State.
