Nursing mothers in the Osun State civil service would soon be granted a six months maternity leave.
Ademola Adeleke, the Special Adviser to the Osun State Governor, on Public Health, Dr Akindele Adekunle had made this announcement during a one day symposium on celebrating enabling breastfeeding environment for working mothers in Osogbo on Tuesday, October 3.
According to Dr Akindele, this move was in line with the World Health Organisation—WHO, recommendations.
Akindele had said:
“I’m happy to inform all our nursing mothers in various offices that our ever listening and people loving Governor, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, has vowed to forward a bill to the House of Assembly to authorise enabling laws to enact a bill to permit maternity leave six months for nursing mothers in a bid to allow them to be able to take care of their newborns and encourage them to breastfeed their babies exclusively for six months as advised by the World Health Organisation.”
“This decision is in partnership with the Wives of Nigerian Governors’ Forum’s advocacy for approval of six months paid maternity leave for nursing mothers.”
