Governor Alex Otti has unveiled plans to distribute 50 transformers across the state’s three senatorial zones. The rural electrification and overall power supply will be enhanced by this initiative ‘Light Up Abia.’

Information Commissioner, Okey Kanu disclosed this during a press briefing on the outcome of the weekly executive council meetings held on Monday in Umuahia. He stated that the program would be executed by the state government particularly targeting isolated institutions, government buildings and public facilities.

“Light Up Abia project is an indication of our administration’s commitment to improve the lives of our people,” said Governor Otti. “We are committed to ensure that every community in Abia state has access to steady electricity.”

Major highlights of this initiative include:

  • – Distribution of 50 transformers to selective communities
  • – Implementation of rural electrification project in the villages
  • – Provision of more than 2500 solar lights throughout the state
  • – Rehabilitation and upgrading of Ariaria and Ubakala water schemes
