According to Francis Ojomo, the Chairman of the Oyo State Environmental Task Force, more than 4,000 environmental offenders have been arrested in the state.
Ojomo had also explained that some of the offenders would be committed to community service after trial while the other offenders would pay fines.
The state Environmental Protection Tribunal also in Ibadan convicted five offenders on Wednesday, May 17. According to the tribunal’s chairman, Jubreel Kareem, the offenders had been arrested during the environmental monitoring in Ibadan, after they were caught dumping wastes illegally at unauthorized places.
The offenders have been convicted to three months of imprisonment or an option to pay the fines of N5,000 and N2,500 each.
