Bondi, 60, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer shortly after President Trump removed her as attorney general, according to a report Tuesday. She has undergone treatment for the disease and is recovering, Axios reported.

The revelation comes amid a report that Trump has tapped Bondi to serve on an AI-focused advisory committee. She will be on the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), working alongside tech titans like Mark Zuckerberg, Jensen Huang, and Larry Ellison.

But the news that has captured attention is not the appointment. It is the diagnosis — and the quiet resilience Bondi has shown in facing it.

‘Kicking Cancer’s Ass’

Katie Miller, a podcast host and former White House official, praised Bondi on X for how she has handled the diagnosis. “Pam has been quietly kicking cancer’s ass the last few weeks,” Miller wrote. “She has a heart of gold.”

The prognosis for Bondi is excellent. Most thyroid cancers are permanently curable with treatment, according to the Cleveland Clinic. The five-year survival rate is over 98%.

Bondi is not the first Trump associate to face thyroid cancer. Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, secretly battled the disease while serving in the White House during the president’s first term. He revealed in his memoir that he had surgery to remove a tumor from his throat while handling Middle East affairs for Trump. In 2022, after his White House tenure, Kushner underwent a second thyroid surgery.

The Firing

Trump removed Bondi as attorney general last month. She was fired on the same day she accompanied the president to the Supreme Court to watch oral arguments in a major birthright citizenship case. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has been tapped to serve as interim AG while Trump decides on a permanent replacement.

Despite the firing, Bondi has remained publicly loyal. After her dismissal, she vowed to “continue fighting for President Trump.”

“Leading President Trump’s historic and highly successful efforts to make America safer and more secure has been the honor of a lifetime, and easily the most consequential first year of the Department of Justice in American history,” she posted on X last month. “I remain eternally grateful for the trust that President Trump placed in me to Make America Safe Again.”
