Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor has publicly refuted claims made by a widow and her daughter who accused her of unlawfully taking over their late husband’s land.
The accusations went viral on social media, sparking widespread attention.
In a detailed statement on her Instagram page, Ozokwor explained that she legally purchased the land in 2010, with the full consent and knowledge of the widow.
She further revealed that it was the widow herself who initially contacted her agent to help sell the property.
According to the actress, the conflict arose last year when the widow attempted to sell a portion of the land without informing her. In response, Ozokwor fenced off the property to protect her ownership rights. This action, she claims, prompted the widow and her daughter to launch accusations online, alleging that Ozokwor had wrongfully taken their inheritance.
Describing the allegations as malicious, fraudulent, and aimed at tarnishing her reputation, Ozokwor accused the women of exploiting her public profile to gain sympathy and solicit donations. She also criticised bloggers for sharing the story without verifying facts.
“I bought this land 15 years ago with the owner’s full awareness. She even approached my agent to find a buyer. When she later tried to sell part of the land without my consent, I took necessary steps to secure my property,” Ozokwor stated.
The actress affirmed her commitment to resolving the matter through legal channels, emphasizing that social media should not be treated as a court of law. “I am pursuing legal means to clear my name because my reputation and livelihood are at stake,” she said.
Ozokwor thanked her fans and supporters for their encouragement and assured them that justice will prevail. She concluded her message with a firm challenge: “Meet me in court.”
