The Labour Party’s leadership has issued a statement denying any involvement with the activities of Fabian Ihekweme, the Imo State Coordinator for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization.
Arabambi Abayomi, the party’s national publicity secretary, accused the beleaguered state chairman of the Obi-Datti Campaign Organization of indulging in “clandestine conspiracy and fraudulent acts” in a statement released in Abuja on Sunday. This is true even though Ihekweme refuted the accusation, which he claimed was made by some party officials.
Ihekweme was charged with serial fraud by Abayomi for allegedly soliciting funds from individuals under pretenses with the express intention of undermining the party’s win in the general elections of 2023. He claims that the Labour Party is still the exclusive authority on all procedures related to the campaign for its duly nominated candidates.
Barr Julius Abure, the national chairman of the Labour Party, has further stated that any more intentional or criminally motivated violations committed by an individual or group that in any way disparages the Party and its reputation must be referred to the Inspector General of Police. He added that this is not limited to Fabian Ihekweme because criminal conduct as exemplified by the Imo State impersonator thinking he is better placed or superior to the National Chairman and the NWC is not only gross insubordination but any further occurrence will leave the party with no choice but to order the arrest of the perpetrators. Ihekweme swiftly responded by defending himself in another release made the same day, claiming the allegations were untrue.
Ihekweme pleaded with the party hierarchy to stop trying to discredit their presidential candidate. He claimed that Prof. Pat Utomi, another senior member of the organization, properly inaugurated the Imo campaign council.
