Phil Foden and Cole Palmer were the massive winners on a great night for Manchester at the 2022/23 PFA Awards in the Opera House. Manchester City midfielder Foden was named PFA Player of the Year, while Chelsea’s Cole Palmer picked up the Young Player of the Year award. This is the first time since 2009/10 that both top men’s awards have gone to English players.

In fine form, 24-year-old Foden hit 19 goals in 35 Premier League matches to help Manchester City make history as the first team to win four consecutive titles. At only 23, Foden became the youngest player to win six league championships. For his performances, he also picked up the 2023-24 Premier League Player of the Season and Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year awards.

“To win this award is something very special, and I am very proud and grateful,” said Foden. “I want to thank everyone who voted for me and give special thanks to Pep, the City coaches, and all my teammates.”

Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain added praise for the youngster, saying, “Phil embodies everything we stand for at Manchester City. He is supremely talented and always seeks to improve.”

Palmer, 22, enjoyed a breakthrough season at Chelsea, netting 22 goals in 34 Premier League games and featuring for England in Euro 2024. His form was recognized with the Young Player of the Year award ahead of Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United.

On the women’s side, Player of the Year went to Manchester City’s Khadija Shaw, while Manchester United’s Grace Clinton took Young Player of the Year.
