On Tuesday, the Suns traded a first-round pick in the 2031 unprotected lottery for three first-round picks from the Utah Jazz. The picks are the less favorable first-rounder in 2025 (from Cleveland or Minnesota), 2027 (from Cleveland, Minnesota or Utah) and 2029 (from Cleveland, Minnesota or Utah).
The 2025 choice should be the Cavs, who are presently one of the NBA’s best teams.
That speculation includes linking the Suns to a possible trade for Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler. The 14-season veteran, who has a cap hit of $48.7 million this season and $52.4 million next season, is said to be providing problems for Miami on and off the court. Butler can become an unrestricted free agent next season, where the current favorite to land him, Phoenix, now checks in at (-120).
The Suns are seeking reinforcements to move up the standings as they sit 10th in the Western Conference, with a record of 21-21. Phoenix is apparently trying to shop center Jusuf Nurkic, who has an $18.125 million cap hit, in their own roster shake-up, per reports.
Through their most recent draft picks and consistent trade pursuit, the Suns are in an excellent position to make significant pushes for the next half of the season.
