The Plateau State University in Bokkos has announced the date for its resumption of academic activities after the Christmas and New Year holiday break.
Recall that yet-to-be identified gunmen had attacked communities in the three Local Government Areas of Plateau State on Christmas Eve, murdering over 150 residents.
Bokkos Local Government Area accommodating the state university is one of the council areas where gunmen stormed 25 communities and killed over 150 persons on that ill-fated day on Christmas Eve.
The University had issued a statement that read that the Senate of the Plateau State University Bokkos met on Monday, January 8, 2024, regarding the resumption and the continuation of 2022/2023 academic activities.
The statement which was signed by its Public Relations Officer, John Agam read:
“Normal academic work in the university began earnestly on Monday, 8th January 2024. During the course of the meeting, the Senate approved the admission list of the first batch of postgraduate students of the University. Registration and lectures will start this week, on the 12th of January 2024.”
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Matur Malau Bernard had in the statement, encouraged urged both staff and students of the varsity to resume academic work immediately in order not to miss any lectures which may affect their overall academic performance.
Additionally, the Vice Chancellor revealed that some security measures had been put in place by the institution to guarantee the safety and protection of staff and students.
Lastly, the Senate observed a minute silence in honour of a member of staff, Damaris David Yakubu and three students of the University who died at the hands of the terrorists during the Christmas Eve attack.
