Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) coach Christophe Galtier, along with his son, has been placed in custody as part of an investigation into allegations of racism involving one of his previous clubs, according to Nice prosecutor Xavier Bonhomme.
Galtier and his son, John Valovic-Galtier, were detained on Friday morning for questioning, as stated by Bonhomme. Although Galtier is in the process of leaving PSG, he remains under contract. He vehemently denied the accusations of making racist and anti-Muslim remarks during his tenure at French club Nice, which came to light earlier this year.
French media outlets, including RMC Sport, published reports referring to a leaked email from former Nice director of football Julien Fournier to the club’s owners. In the email, Galtier was accused of expressing the view that there were too many Black and Muslim players in the squad.
Responding to the allegations, Galtier’s lawyer released a statement to the French media, in which Galtier expressed his shock and denounced the “insulting and defamatory” nature of the report. He also stated his intention to take legal action, without specifying the exact course of action.
