According to news sources, the Kano State Police Command announced on Saturday, 21st May 2022 that it had intercepted a vehicle modified to include Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). This development was coming on the heels of the explosion that devastated the Aba road in Sabon Gari, Fagge Local Government Area in the state.
Speaking on the matter, CP Sumaila Dikko who is the Commissioner of Police for the state revealed that the vehicle was intercepted at the Bubbugaje Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area on Thursday. Represented by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, he explained that the vehicle was nabbed after a brief chase by the police, upon which the miscreants abandoned the car and escaped.
Mr. Haruna, however, added that the state command had successfully made arrests concerning the previously mentioned Tuesday explosions and suggested that one of the shops caught in the blast radius may have had dealings in sales of illicit chemicals and combustibles primarily used in the making of Improvised Explosive Devices. He added that investigations were still ongoing in the case and already evidence proving the purchase of those materials had already been unearthed.
Tragically, 9 people were reported to have lost their lives in the Tuesday attacks, and 8 victims sustained various injuries. Some of that eight were pupils of the nearby Winners Kids Academy which had been caught in the shockwaves generated by the incident.
