The Nigerian Police Force has just announced a ban on the use of fireworks during and after the yuletide season i.e., the Christmas and New Year celebrations across the country.
This was made known on Saturday, 11 December by Lawan Jimeta, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of zone 5 comprising Edo and Delta states.
The announcement had been conveyed through a statement given by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tijani Momoh.
Jimeta had according to the statement, said that the devices were explosive and could harm lives and properties as well posing as a disturbance to public peace and cause unnecessary panic among residents of the zone.
Jimeta then concluded that in light of the given reasons, zone (5) appeals to the general public, parents, and guardians alike to desist from detonating or lighting these devices.
