The Nigeria Police Force has criticised the conduct of armed officers who appeared in a viral video escorting Nollywood actress Angela Okorie while she jogged, describing the act as unprofessional and inconsistent with the ethics of the Force.
Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, issued a statement on the incident, confirming that an investigation has been launched to identify the officers and determine the context of the footage.
“The Nigeria Police Force strongly frowns at the conduct of armed police officers seen in a viral video trailing actress Angela Okorie while she jogged—an act considered clearly inconsistent with the professional standards and decorum expected of personnel of the Force. The incident, which appears to have occurred on or around a movie set, has also sparked widespread public concern and criticism,” the statement read.
Adejobi added that although it is unclear whether the scene was part of a scripted film production, the behaviour of the officers failed to meet the standards expected of police personnel.
“While it remains unclear whether the scene was part of a scripted production, the conduct of the officers seen in the video falls short of the standards expected of members of the Nigeria Police Force,” he stated.
He further noted that administrative procedures are underway to determine what disciplinary measures will be taken once the facts are established.
“Accordingly, necessary administrative processes have been initiated to identify the officers involved and determine the circumstances surrounding the video, while appropriate disciplinary action will be taken based on the outcome of the review,” the statement added.
Adejobi reaffirmed the Force’s dedication to upholding its core values, stating, “The Force remains committed to upholding professionalism, discipline, and public trust.”
