In response to allegations of treason and collusion by members of their departments, President Zelenskyy has dismissed the head of Ukraine’s security service and the general prosecutor.
After “very serious questions” were raised about their leadership, the security head and Ukraine’s general prosecutor were both fired. According to reports, Mr. Zelenskyy has known Ivan Bakanov, the director of the Security Service of Ukraine (the SBU), for a very long period. Additionally, he fired Iryna Venediktova and replaced her with Oleksiy Symonenko, the prosecutor general’s deputy.
More than 60 workers of the prosecutor’s office and the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) have remained in the occupied region and operate against our state, the president claimed in his evening address.
“Such an array of crimes against the foundations of the state’s national security, and the links recorded between Ukrainian security forces and Russian special services raise very serious questions about their respective leaders,” he added.
According to Mr. Zelenskyy, 651 charges of treason and collusion against law enforcement personnel have also been filed.
And after over five months of fighting, he claimed that while Russia had launched over 3,000 cruise missiles, the number of artillery attacks was “difficult to count.”
