Pop singer Halsey has revealed she’s “lucky to be alive” after privately battling chronic illnesses. The 29-year-old American artist shared this personal news in a social media post, coinciding with the announcement of her new album.
Halsey, born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, didn’t disclose her specific diagnosis but tagged the Lupus Research Alliance and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in her post. In a series of photos and videos, Halsey is seen in the hospital, expressing that she feels “like an old lady.”
“Long story short, I’m lucky to be alive,” she wrote in the caption, where she also announced her new album.
Halsey shared her health update while announcing her fifth studio album and its lead single, “The End.” In the song, she sings about how “every couple of years now, the doctor says I’m sick.”
“I told myself I’m giving myself two more years to be sick,” she says in the Instagram video.
“When I’m 30, I’m having a rebirth and I’m not going to be sick.
“I’m going to look super hot and have lots of energy and get to redo my 20s in my 30s.”
Halsey has previously discussed her ongoing health issues, stating, “I’ve kind of been sick most of my adult life.” However, in 2022, she revealed her health deteriorated further during her pregnancy with her son, Ender, the previous year.
She has been treated for conditions such as endometriosis, Ehlers-Danlos syndromes, Sjogren’s syndrome, and mast cell activation syndrome. In her latest post, she hinted at receiving treatment for lupus and leukemia by tagging the Lupus Research Alliance and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
One of the videos shared by Halsey shows her receiving hospital treatment, and in her new song, she sings about “poison” in her blood and beginning treatment.
After sharing her health story online on Tuesday, Halsey received an outpouring of support from fans. Her post garnered over a million likes and thousands of comments.
