Pope Francis, still experiencing breathing difficulties from a recent hernia operation, opted not to deliver a scheduled speech at a conference on Thursday.
The pontiff explained to the Catholic Oriental Church assembly that he was still affected by anaesthesia and shared that attendees would receive a written copy of his intended address instead.
When asked about his well-being, the 86-year-old pope responded with a touch of humour, stating, “I’m still alive.”
Having undergone abdominal hernia surgery on June 7, Pope Francis spent nine days in the hospital for recovery. Since returning to the Vatican last Friday, he has maintained a busy agenda, which included meetings with the presidents of Cuba and Brazil.
Despite having eight events on his schedule for Thursday, the pope chose to prioritize his health and well-being.
