Prince William was quick to pay tribute to England following their agonising 2-1 loss to Argentina in the FIFA World Cup semi-finals on Friday, commending the Three Lions for an inspirational tournament campaign, despite their devastating elimination.
After the Three Lions took the lead via an Anthony Gordon effort in the 55th minute in Atlanta and seemed destined to book their place in the final, Argentina launched a stunning comeback, with Enzo Fernandez leveling things up before Lautaro Martinez netted a winner in added time to ensure the defending champions would meet Spain in the final.
Speaking in the wake of the defeat, The Prince of Wales – FA patron – expressed that he was ‘gutted,’ but also lauded the team’s display over the course of the competition.

“The fight and belief you have shown has inspired us all. The most complete England team in a tournament. Hold your heads high,” William wrote in a message released through Kensington Palace.
Sir Keir Starmer the Prime Minister also registered his dismay, noting that England have done the nation proud through their resolve and commitment.
The Royal Family also conveyed a message of commiseration to captain Harry Kane and his colleagues, urge them to brush the disappointment aside.
After another deep World Cup journey, despite falling at the penultimate stage once again, England has departed the tournament to rapturous acclaim, whilst Argentina gear up for a showdown with Spain in Sunday’s showpiece.
