To address an energy crisis, South Africa’s president has proclaimed a state of disaster.
With the announcement made by Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday, the government now has more authority to address the acute electricity shortages that have gotten worse recently.
He claimed that South Africa would have a more effective electricity network in the end.
The opposition constantly interrupted the president as he was giving his yearly speech to parliament.
Before his speech, there was an uproar in the room. Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters briefly seized the podium before being ejected.
Additionally, Mr. Ramaphosa stated that the witness protection program was currently open to whistleblowers who exposed government misconduct.
However, individuals whose relatives were killed for exposing corruption will not feel any comfort from that.
To reduce the rising cost of living, Mr. Ramaphosa increased the relief assistance received by the more than eight million South Africans without jobs.
