Marcus Rashford has floated the idea of extending his stay at Barcelona beyond his loan period from Manchester United, narrating how the move to Spain has given him back his lost football love in the years he stayed in England.
Last season, the 27-year-old forward was sent on a one-year loan to Barcelona, a club which is paying his full salary after he agreed to take a pay cut. The deal has a €30 million ($35 million) purchase option that could be made permanent if his good performance continues.
Rashford told ESPN, “I’m enjoying this football club, and for anyone who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in history. For a player, it’s an honour.”
After transfer to Camp Nou under Hansi Flick Barcelona coach, the England international has come back to his best and has scored five goals and provided six assists in 12 games in all competitions.
Rashford confessed that the move abroad had been a fresh air for him after he had been with United for more than 20 years. “People forget, 23 years of my life was with Manchester United. Sometimes you just need a change,” he stated.
The winger is in great form is now hoping to play his first El Clásico on Sunday, and he is eager to make a statement in Spain’s biggest fixture.
