Nollywood actor Ray Emodi has announced his withdrawal from the film industry, explaining that repeated exposure to unsafe working conditions, emotional strain, and pressure from his family led to the difficult decision.
In a heartfelt Instagram video, Emodi revealed that some of his film projects exposed him to serious risks, including working in communities experiencing violent unrest.
“I have stopped acting in films. I quit. There was a time I never thought I would say that sentence for a short period of time, but I won’t lie,” he said.
Sharing one of his most unsettling experiences, the actor recounted, “I have put in a lot of work in Nollywood. I shot a film in a town that I won’t mention, but we were literally hearing gunshots. There was like a craziness going on in the town next to our town, and we were still shooting.”

According to Emodi, leaving acting has not been easy, especially due to his family’s strong disapproval, rooted in their values and desire to protect their reputation.
“This is a decision that has come with a lot of consequences. My family does not support this. It is a family with strict rules and a reputation to protect, which is understandable, and I respect them,” he stated.
“I respect their decision, and I won’t do anything that would bring any stain to the name,” he added.
The actor also reflected on the mental and emotional challenges that came with his career, noting that although the job brought him fulfillment, it equally pushed him into troubling situations.
“I have been in crazy situations. I have had some of the best experiences of my life on set, and I won’t lie. It is not easy to say no. It is difficult to turn them down when they call you, but I had to say no. I had to stop saying yes,” he said.
Emodi, however, made it clear that his exit from acting marks the beginning of a new creative chapter, as he is now focusing fully on music. He promised fans meaningful and quality content as he embarks on the new path.
“I love music. I have always loved music. I make good music. I want you guys to come with me on this journey. I love every single Nollywood fan, and I am not leaving you. I am just going to make music,” he said.
The popular YouTube and Nollywood star previously stepped away from acting briefly in 2023 to address anxiety-related struggles before returning. Throughout his career, he has worked with prominent actresses such as Mercy Johnson-Okojie, Uju Okoli, and Ruth Kadiri, featuring in several well-received productions.
