The Spanish Football Federation has decided to postpone this weekend’s LaLiga clash between Real Madrid and Valencia due to massive flooding in eastern Spain which has taken over 95 lives. Another match-Villarreal’s home game with Rayo Vallecano-was also suspended as communities in the region reel under the devastating blow of flash floods.
La Liga’s request included the postponement of Valencia and Villarreal’s matches, as well as three second-division matches, while teams are in affected areas. The RFEF also announced that games from both professional and non-professional leagues, and indoor football from the region of Valencia, would be postponed.
This had also become the reason for the federation to postpone Valencia’s midweek Copa del Rey fixture with Parla Escuela.
A minute’s silence will be held before all matches in Spain this weekend, including Barcelona’s Catalan derby at home to Espanyol on Sunday. Spain is in mourning after tragic flooding; the affected communities and football clubs are uniting to support victims of the natural disaster.
