On Thursday, the Osun State Police Command revealed the arrest of two armed robbers who had been targeting the Osogbo metropolis using a motorcycle.
The arrested suspects, Adesina Hammed, 29, and Oyeladun Iyanu, 28, along with two other accomplices still at large, were armed with cutlasses. They reportedly confronted two individuals near the Olaiya area of Osogbo around 7:30 pm on June 5. The police have withheld the identities of the victims.
The gang, using a motorcycle, stopped their targets, who were also on a motorcycle, and forced them to a Point of Sale operator (POS) to withdraw N400,000. According to a statement by police spokesperson Yemisi Opalola, the suspects also stole an iPhone 13 from the victims and sold it for N140,000 in Osogbo.
Opalola gave details on the suspects’ actions, explaining that in response to public reports via media channels such as petitions and social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram, the Osun State Police Command apprehended Adesina Hammed, aged 29, and Oyeladun Iyanu, aged 28, who were allegedly involved in a surge of kidnapping and extortion incidents in Osogbo, now dubbed ‘mini kidnappers’.
He then declared a war on criminals in the state, stating that operatives have been instructed to apprehend all suspects connected to the crimes allegedly committed by those already in custody.
