October 16th, 2024, Afrobeats sensation Rema had taken centre stage at the Zepp Kuala Lumpur venue in Malaysia and performed to wowed fans. The 2,500-capacity venue was filled with rowdy fans who sang his greatest hits along with him, showing a growing dominance of the Nigerian hitmaker in the global music scene.

This show sold out for Rema in his first headliner performance fresh off his New Zealand’s Eden Festival, sharing the stage with other Afrobeats icons Tiwa Savage and Ruger. Success of his Malaysian concert underpins his widespread popularity, especially in Asia, where his music still strikes a chord among listeners. His single “Calm Down” broke records and played a huge role in growing his reach, as it was the first Afrobeat song to pass 1 billion streams on Spotify and debuted number one in the Guinness Book of Records on the MENA chart.

The year 2024 has been a landmark in his career, not just with performances but also with the release of his second album, HEIS. The album, which captures his urge to reconnect Afrobeats to its fundamental sound, features collaborations with Benin City’s own Shallipopi and rising rapper Odumodublvck. With HEIS now in Grammy consideration, Rema is on a path to even greater milestones.
