Residents Panic as Nigerian Soldiers Storm Ebonyi Community in Search of IPOB Members

The Nigerian Army has reportedly sacked Obeagu community in Ishielu local government area, Ebonyi State, burning some houses in the process.

According to sources, the soldiers invaded the community with about 10 Hilux cars and armored truck vehicles filled with more than 100 soldiers in the early hours of Monday, 12 December, shooting sporadically and torching some houses.

It is yet unclear, the reason for the invasion.

Meanwhile, another source had told Sahara Reporters that the soldiers had been asking women and the elderly for the location of the camp of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in the community.

Recall that on October 13, armed men suspected to be killer herdsmen invaded the Ishielu community and killed one person while also wounding two people and abducting three others, forcing the community to pay millions of naira as ransom to secure the release of those abducted.

At the time of this report, security agencies have not arrested any of the community assailants.
