Early Monday morning, Gunmen launched an attack on the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Owerri, Imo State.
At the time of writing this report, 3 of the attackers had been killed by the police, and two Improvised Explosive Devices, IED, 3 AK-47s, pump action guns as well as three vehicles were recovered by the operatives.
However, the attackers had destroyed part of the electoral building using an explosive device before the police intervened.
Mike Abbatam, the representative for the state police command, had confirmed the incident to The PUNCH newspapers. According to Abbatam, three gunmen were killed while two firebombs were recovered from the scene.
In light of the recent event, police officials have subsequently strengthened security in some parts of the state.
