The invitation of the injured Victor Osimhen by the Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, for Nigeria’s last World Cup qualifying matches in November has been described as “absurd” by a faction of the Italian press.
Italian publications Corriere Dello Sport as per Tutto Napoli, described the invite by the Franco-German tactician as absurd and unreasonable. The italian media believes that the Super Eagles should understand the current physical conditions of the Napoli striker and not risk his fitness.
The Super Eagles are just 3 point away from qualifying for the World cup playoffs after four games and it was not really a surprise when Rohr invited the former CAF Youth Footballer Of The Year in the 23-man squad to face Liberia and Cape Verde.

Osimhen has been showing his values for the national team, scoring Five goals during the Afcon qualifiers to secure the Cameroon 2022 ticket and he’s registered two goals in four 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
However, the Napoli forward suffered a gastrocnemius contracture in his right calf during the warm up session for Napoli’s Serie A game against Salernitana and he’s expected to be out for two to three weeks.

According to Tutto Napoli, they believe the return of Odion Ighalo and the call up of the likes of Iheanacho and Paul Onuachu should give the Eagles an edge, demanding that Gernot Rohr and his staff should not rush Osimhen so as not to lose him to a long term injury.
Osimhen has been in his best form in Napoli in all competitions, scoring nine goals in 12 appearances for the Neapolitans.
