Ruben Amorim, the former Manchester United coach, has said sorry to the club’s fans and conceded that his time at Old Trafford did not go to plan. “It was not what was expected. Some errors I made,” Amorim told a news conference after his unveiling as the new AC Milan manager on Wednesday.
“I didn’t have the chance to speak to the Manchester United supporters and apologise.”
Amorim guided Sporting Lisbon to two Primeira Liga titles, but it ended in the opposite direction at Old Trafford, where he failed to secure a Champions League spot as United’s poor form was rounded off with their lowest Premier League finish.

United are said to have paid around 11m for his services after luring him away from Portugal, but after 14 months, it came to a crashing halt. It was reported he was sacked due to friction with the club hierarchy; however, the chief executive of United’s football operations, Omar Berrada, recently claimed he improved the culture in the Old Trafford dressing room.
Amorim will lead AC Milan this season and is set to start the 2026/27 Serie A campaign on August 23 when they take on Torino at San Siro.
