UD Almería manager Rubi said he would be happy to have Cristiano Ronaldo as a player now that the Portuguese star owns 25% of the Spanish club. Ronaldo’s investment was confirmed earlier this week as part of his long-term plans beyond his playing career.
The 41-year-old forward, who has scored 965 senior goals, hasn’t ruled out playing longer, and Rubi thinks that’s an exciting idea. Rubi said, “It would be amazing if he could play here.”This is his club, and if he wanted to keep playing, everyone would welcome him back with open arms.
Ronaldo is signed with Al Nassr FC, and his contract runs until the summer of 2027. Even though there were rumors about problems with club ownership earlier this season, the Portugal captain has recently said he’s happy in Saudi Arabia and wants to keep playing there.
Almería is aiming to move up from Spain’s Segunda División and is currently close to securing a spot for automatic promotion. If they get back to La Liga by 2027 and Ronaldo makes that unexpected move, he’d be one of the oldest players to play in Spain’s top league.
The move would also put Ronaldo in a rare league of player-owners, similar to what Didier Drogba did when he took on both roles with Phoenix Rising in the US.
