Russian soldier sentenced to life in prison in Ukraine’s first war crimes trial

Sgt Vadim Shishimarin, a 21 yr old Russian soldier was sentenced on Monday to life imprisonment for killing civilian Oleksandr Shelipov. 

The 62 years civilian who was unarmed was murdered on the fourth day of the battle in early February by  Vadim who had fired countless shots at the civilian who was on the pavement. 

The courtroom said the civilian had died due to a shot in the head that vanquished his skull. Vadim had pleaded guilty to the indictment and declared he was ashamed of his actions. 

Prosecutor Andriy Sunyuk hoped that this sentence would send out a message to different Russian troops who would have perpetrated War crimes.
