A sumptuous strike from Mohamed Salah capped off Liverpool’s 2-1 comeback against Brighton as boss Arne Slot became the first Liverpool manager ever to win eight of his opening 10 Premier League games.
In the starting lineup once again following his midweek rest, Darwin Núñez came close to opening the scoring early on but Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen made the save off his top-corner attempt. The Seagulls, coming off of a spirited performance despite the recent loss to Liverpool in the EFL Cup, struck first through Ferdi Kadıoğlu, whose powerful shot off Danny Welbeck’s pass put Brighton ahead.
Liverpool had injected pace into the game in the second half, and a cross from Cody Gakpo found the back of the net for the equalizer, which got Anfield alight. Salah took the momentum further as he curved an excellent strike past Verbruggen to seal his fourth goal in three games against Brighton.
But the Reds held firm to maintain their unbeaten record in the final 15 minutes of matches this season. Slot’s Liverpool went top of the table after Manchester City’s dropped points, while Brighton slipped to seventh as their late-game struggles continue.
