Paul Scholes, Manchester United legend stated the reason why Man United woefully lost to Man City, and that own very mistake came from Ten Hag
He condemned Ten Hag’s decision to bench Casemiro. Ten Hag thought the connection between Eriksen and Fernandez could work out
According to Scholes, A lot of goals should have been prevented, if the lineup was right, Ten Hag was carried away due to the chemistry of the duo on the field. Forgetting that Eriksen is an attacking Midfielder and had to play defensive midfield. Considering the quality of Guardiola’s players, a good defensive Midfielder would have been able to put up with the pressure City’s players mount on them.
He further concluded that it is now very clear that the position of a defensive Midfielder cannot be substituted, and Casemiro possesses every quality a defensive Midfielder could ever have, but unfortunately he was Benched
“think he was carried away by the Eriksen Fernandes thing. Eriksen is predominantly an attacking player now for him to play in that central midfield role against lesser teams is great but once against Manchester City, against a top-class team, you don’t know where you are because you’ve got so many top-quality players around you and they keep the ball a lot.
“You’ve got the likes of Bernado Silva around you, Kevin De Bruyne coming at you. You just don’t know where you are. It’s a totally different world when you’re playing against the so-called lesser teams.
“I mean you can find out today… that’s why you need a defensive midfield player who plays the position really well. He knows what’s behind him, he knows what’s before him, he knows when to press and when to sit back… I think he had a player like that with a great experience on the bench, Casemiro, he would’ve been a lot more suited to.”
It was definitely not a happy day for United fans
