The Senate has just passed the Student Loan, Access to Higher Education, Act 2024.
The senate’s resolution is coming after considering the report of the senate committee on tertiary institutions and TETFUND respectively.
Senator Muntari Dandutse, the chairman of the committee had presented the report during plenary.
President Bola Tinubu had last week transmitted the Bill to the National Assembly for its consideration and passage.
The Upper Legislative chamber had given the Bill an escalated hearing by postponing relevant sections of its standing rules and alluding to the Bill to the Committee of the Whole for consideration.
After much debate on the Bill, Senate President Godswill Akpabio referred the Bill to the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND for additional legislative work and to report back in one week.
The Student Loan Bill seeks to give easy access to higher education for destitute Nigerians through interest-free loans from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund launched in the Act to provide education for all Nigerians.
