Senator Abdul Ningi Returns to Plenary Sessions After Suspension

On Tuesday, Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi North Senatorial District, returned to plenary sessions following a three-month suspension.

The Senate had pardoned and recalled him, ending his suspension that began on March 12, 2024.

Ningi’s suspension stemmed from a controversial interview in which he alleged discrepancies in the 2024 budget. He claimed that while the National Assembly approved N25 trillion, the Presidency implemented a budget of N28.7 trillion.

Last week, Deputy Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro moved a motion for Ningi’s recall, expressing regret on Ningi’s behalf and taking responsibility for his actions.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, subsequently announced Ningi’s unconditional recall after pleas from some lawmakers. This decision marked the end of Ningi’s suspension and his return to legislative duties.
