Sensitive Materials May Be Moved from CBN – INEC

The chairman of the independent national electoral commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu announced on Thursday plans to utilize both manual and electronic dispatch modes in the upcoming 2023 elections. He also disclosed the electoral body was considering moving certain delicate materials from its current resting place of the central bank of Nigeria CBN to somewhere else.

The announcements were made during a routine meeting with the media in Abuja speaking in response to a query made on the political ambitions of the governor of the central bank of Nigeria CBN, Godwin Emefiele.

The INEC chairman said that that was part of the reason why the body was considering finding an alternative resting place for the materials. Yakubu agreed that historically it was the central bank that had been in charge of the depository and movement of the materials and insisted that INEC had never once doubted the ability of CBN to perform those duties but he did admit to understanding the meaning behind the questionnaire’s words as it pertained the current court case involving the CBN governor but only added that the situation was still unfolding.
