A one-stop Sexual Assault Referral Centre has been inaugurated in Cross Rivers State, this is a work project by Heartland Alliance Limited in Collaboration with the state ministry of Women Affairs.
Linda Ayade, the First lady of Cross River State who was represented by Janet Ekpenyong, said that the major aim of establishing the sexual Assault Referral Centre is to provide comfort for persons who have been sexually assaulted.
According to Janet, the first lady is very enthusiastic about the welfare of women and children, and so she’s very excited about this initiative that was co-launched by Heartland Alliance.
Ekpenyong, who is the Director General of the state Primary Healthcare Development Agency, said Linda Ayade “is an advocate of anything that concerns the welfare of women and children,” hence her support for the center as she commended Heartland Alliance for the center and for “playing a great role in ending gender-based violence.”
She also added that primary healthcare is always ready to assist, so the organization exists in all the 18 L.G.As in the state.
“As DG of Primary Healthcare, we are always available to assist,” she said, adding that drugs are associated with violence and they will continue to ensure that children are taken off the streets.”
“Earlier, the Team Lead of Heartland Alliance for Cross River, Dr. Lawrence Ajayi said, “In Cross River State, the organization works across the 18 LGAs in the state,” with similar centers in Calabar Municipal, Bakassi, Yakurr, Ikom, and Ogoja.”
