Afro-Juju veteran, Sir Shina Peters, has shared how a dramatic publicity strategy helped him recover his reputation following his controversial departure from Prince Adekunle’s band.
Speaking during an episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, the “Ace” hitmaker recalled that his exit from the band caused an uproar, as many fans accused him of abandoning his mentor out of greed.
He explained that his record label and some media executives devised an unusual plan to make him appear like someone who had lost his mind, all in an effort to shift public perception and win sympathy.

“People protested against me when I left Prince Adekunle’s band because they believed I left my father figure for money. Then the owner of my record label and some media heads came up with an idea,” Sir Shina Peters recounted.
“They asked me to braid my hair for three days without loosening it, then I wore some torn up clothes. After that, they took me to Oyingbo Market to buy ewedu while recording everything. I didn’t even know what they were up to.”
The veteran singer continued that the unusual act didn’t end there. According to him, the team later took him to Badagry, where he was filmed acting like a madman at a construction site managed by Julius Berger.
“They told me to act like a madman and eat in public. All of that was done to change people’s narratives and earn empathy from fans,” he explained.
Sir Shina Peters added that the plan eventually worked, as the stunt helped to soften public criticism and restore his image as a solo performer.
