Grammy-nominated Afrobeats sensation Davido has once again set the internet ablaze by announcing the release of his fifth studio album, 5ive, slated to drop on March 14, 2025. The news broke through a pre-save link casually shared across his social media platforms. The announcement read simply, “5ive is scheduled to be released on March 14.” Subtle, but effective.
This upcoming album is being hyped as a major milestone in Davido’s career, following the commercial success of A Better Time (2020) and the critically acclaimed Timeless (2023). Fueling the anticipation, Davido dropped two singles in 2024: “Awuke,” featuring YG Marley, and “Funds.”
While “Awuke” plays it safe with its star-studded collaboration, “Funds” digs deeper, sampling Brenda Fassie’s 1997 hit “Vuli Ndlela.” Yes, Davido is tapping into African music royalty to blend traditional sounds with modern Afrobeat vibes, a formula that to many is almost too perfect.
Back in December, the 32-year-old superstar couldn’t contain his excitement about the project, calling 5ive a deeply personal album. “My people. The journey continues in 2025 with my new album 5IVE. This is straight from the heart — my story, my truth, and my growth,” Davido said.
Davido, born David Adeleke, exploded onto the scene in 2012 with his hit single “Dami Duro” from his debut album Omo Baba Olowo. Since then, he’s dropped album after album, A Good Time (2019) and A Better Time (2020) each packed with chart-topping hits and viral moments.
Davido has already earned countless awards and solidified his place as one of Africa’s biggest music exports. But the global music scene is crowded, and staying on top demands more than sticking to a winning formula. Come March 14, 2025, we’ll find out whether 5ive is the groundbreaking project Davido claims it to be, or just another polished product with good beats and wack lyrics for the charts.
