Nigerian singer and songwriter, Simi, has appealed to the public to stop calling her daughter, Adejare, by the nickname “Duduke.”
The music star, who gained widespread acclaim with her 2020 single Duduke, revealed that many people now refer to her child by the song’s title simply because she released it while pregnant with her.
Speaking on the issue, Simi expressed her discomfort with the nickname, clarifying that the word “Duduke” holds no actual meaning and was only a musical expression.
“People call my daughter Duduke which I don’t like. It doesn’t mean anything,” she said.
She went on to explain, “As in if it means something good… it is just a beat. I get it; it’s coming from a good place and I try not to react.”
Simi’s comments highlight her desire for people to recognize and use her daughter’s real name, Adejare, rather than associating her identity solely with a song.
